SampleAssist
A tool for faster multi-sampled instrument creation
SampleAssist is an open-source software tool aimed to assist the recording and editing of instrument samples to help make the creation of digital multi-sampled instruments faster and less tedious.
The plugin can be inserted into the effects chain of a track in a DAW, reading any audio the passes through, whether from a microphone setup, external instrument, or software instrument, and any additional effects units or plugins in between.
When opened, the plugin prompts the user to select a location to save the recorded samples. Once the file location has been chosen, the user can start the recording process. Using the visual count-in, the user can play each sample with consistent start times, each with 500ms of headroom, making things easier for programming them in a multi-sampler. With the recording of each sample, a pre-named file is saved to the chosen location. Once all the samples are recorded, they can be used with any multi-sampler – one with an automatic mapping function makes the process much faster, due to the naming of the files.
